From 1894 to 1902, he taught biologyand entomology at the University of Florida and then to theagricultural experimental station of Georgia, and also as an entomologist atthe University of Maryland. In 1903, he was hired at the Department ofEntomology USDA before doingresearch on insect pests of fruit trees in the new office ofentomology, a function that he retained until his retirement in 1930. Quaintance was also the President of the Entomological Society of Washington, and was called to testify before Congress on an Agricultural Appropriation bill.In Maryland, Quaintance was a resident of White Oak.
